The GUM for teachers

Training courses, teacher days, etc.
The GUM aims to help teachers prepare for a visit to the GUM as effectively and easily as possible. Whether you would like a guided tour with your class or prefer to explore the museum alone with your students, we will make sure you are properly prepared for your visit.

The GUM supports secondary school teachers in several ways:

  • Several times a year, the GUM organises tours for teachers in which they can get to know the museum and its educational offerings.

  • The GUM also provides specific training courses on topics that tie in with the themes of the museum. These courses serve as an in-depth foundation for your teaching practice. During these courses, a guest speaker will take you on a journey of discovery.

  • We also offer 'guide-the-guide' courses in which we show you how to take your class on a tour of the GUM yourself. During this course, you will be given a guided tour of the museum and will get to know the themes of the museum. You will find out more about the museum's philosophical approach to science. After that, you will be able to guide pupils around the museum yourself based on your area of expertise.

You can find the courses in our programme of events.

You and your colleagues can also request a specific training course, e.g. a pedagogical study day. You can do this via info.gum@ugent.be .
