Practical details for school visits

Getting here, where to eat your lunch, etc.
Here are all the practical details to help you make a visit with your class or student group run smoothly.

Number of participants

Groups can have a maximum of 20 pupils. We prefer to groups to have no more than 15 pupils in order to ensure a comfortable and high-quality visit. This means that a group of more than 20 pupils will automatically be split into two groups.

! At this time groups can have a maximum of 9 pupils because of the corona measures.

Opening hours

School visits will follow the museum's opening hours. We don not accept school groups on Wednesdays because the museum is closed.

Starting the tour

Ten minutes before the start of the tour, the group must report to the 'INFO & TICKETS' desk. Group lockers are provided for backpacks and coats. Toilets are located at the reception and on each floor. The guide will welcome the group and start the tour promptly.

Where to eat lunch

The GUM offers a lunch room that you can use (free of charge) to enjoy a picnic with your class. When booking, please let us know whether you wish to book this space. The room can accommodate 20 pupils. If you are bringing more than one group, you can alternate so that each group gets to use the space for half an hour.

In dry weather, of course, you can also enjoy a picnic in the Botanical Garden or adjacent Citadel Park.

Getting here

The GUM is a recognised cultural venue. This means that you can take the bus or tram to our museum for free during off-peak hours. This must be requested in advance here.

The museum is easy to access by public transport and is within walking distance of Gent-Sint-Pieters railway station. De Lijn buses stop at the museum.

Coaches can drop off your group at the museum and park further away. More information about getting to the museum can be found here.

Bookings

Our range for schools can be found here. You can request a tour or workshop by filling in the form here or emailing groepen.gum@ugent.be. We will check whether the desired date is available and let you know as soon as we can. You can combine a tour and workshop in the GUM with the range offered by the Botanical Garden. Pay for your visit afterwards by invoice. Cash is not accepted. In order to process your request smoothly, we ask you to book at least 10 working days in advance. Thanks!

Price

For a group of max. 9 secondary school pupils, you will pay 80 euros for a tour (90 min.) and 90 euros for a workshop (120 min.). There is no individual entrance fee for the pupils or their accompanying teacher.
