Accessibility:
The reception is easily accessible. A lowered zone is available so that we can communicate face to face.
There is elevator access to all the different floors of the GUM. When you report to 'Info & Tickets', we can provide a personal access badge that gives you easy access to the different floors by elevator.
The toilets are suitable for disabled use.
Portable walking chairs are available on the various floors.
Be sure to check out our reduced entrance fees too.
Most of the Botanical Garden and greenhouses are accessible to people with reduced mobility. Some of the narrower paths are not suitable for walking aids or wheelchair users. If you have reduced mobility and want to visit the Tropical Greenhouse, please contact us in advance. They will give you access through a side door. The Botanical Garden also has disabled toilet facilities.
Museum texts
The museum texts are available in Dutch and English in the museum space. If you would like to consult the French or German texts, please tell the staff at the 'Info & Tickets' desk. We will be happy to give you the texts.
Less Mobile?
Are you less mobile? If so, the TriVelo cycle taxi service is on hand to take you to the GUM and back to your home or another location in Ghent. You can find all the information here via this link.
Sensory Box
A visit to a museum stimulates all your senses. You’ll discover a wide variety of objects, film screenings with sound, interactive screens, listening horns and moving installations. The exhibition spaces are generally dark, with spotlights.
To make your visit as enjoyable as possible, you can make use of a sensory box. This contains various aids that can help you process or reduce sensory stimuli, or simply focus better. In this way, the sensory box offers extra support when you need it.
You can borrow a sensory box free of charge from the reception desk; it is suitable for both children and adults.
How does it work?
Ask the receptionist for the sensory box.
You will be given a small box containing all sorts of fidget toys.
After your visit, please return everything to the receptionist.
