Exhibition TRUTH travels to Rijksmuseum Boerhaave
The collaboration underscores the international appeal of the GUM’s exhibition concept. Both museums demonstrate how science and art together can contribute to critical thinking in a complex world. Truth? The art of doubt. on show until January 4, 2027, at Rijksmuseum Boerhaave.
With 27 artworks, this marks the largest integration of contemporary art in an exhibition at Rijksmuseum Boerhaave to date. The exhibition combines highlights from the museum’s own collection with loans from, among others, GUM & Plantentuin, Naturalis, Teylers Museum, and the University Museum Utrecht.
Wunderkammer of TRUTH explored humanity’s search for truth and how we record it. Scientists and artists entered into dialogue on themes such as disinformation, trust, evidence, and perception.
Wunderkammer of TRUTH invited visitors to reflect critically on truth and doubt, bringing together art and science.
The collaboration highlights the international reach of the Ghent-based exhibition concept. GUM & Plantentuin developed the original exhibition in close collaboration with scientists, artists, and a youth team (Museum Student Team), who actively contributed to both the content and public engagement.
With this exhibition, both museums show how science and art together can foster critical thinking in a complex world.
Rijksmuseum Boerhaave builds on this concept and renames the exhibition Truth? The art of doubt. The museum in Leiden enriches the presentation with objects from its own collection and international loans, including works from GUM. As at GUM, Roel Van Berckelaer designed the scenography. The result is a socially relevant exhibition that invites visitors to navigate between fact and fiction, and to reflect on the role of science in an age of fake news and artificial intelligence.
Through this collaboration, GUM & Plantentuin and Rijksmuseum Boerhaave emphasize the importance of international exchange on science, art, and societal issues.
Truth? The art of doubt can be visited from April 24, 2026 to January 4, 2027.
