DARK Breakfast with Uus Knops, Evelien Jonckheere & playField
- 19 October 2025 - 10:00 - 12:00
On the first Sunday of DARK WEEKends, we invite you to the DARK breakfast, a breakfast lecture (with breakfast) where three passionate speakers will take a closer look at our Flemish mourning culture.
Evelien Jonckheere, historian and curator of the Huis van Alijn, talks about the history of the coffee table. Where does this phenomenon come from? How is this tradition evolving in a secularised society?
Psychiatrist and psychotherapist Uus Knops explores the darker sides of grief. How can shame and taboo influence the grieving process? Is there enough room for grief?
Finally, Marthe and Lana Schneider from the arts collective playField take you on a journey through their research project Don't Forget to Die, in which they investigate how physical death is gradually disappearing in a digital society where avatars and online profiles live on.
