The GUM (Ghent University Museum) postpones its opening due to coronavirus

In accordance with government measures, Ghent University and the GUM (Ghent University Museum) have decided to postpone the grand opening of the brand-new science museum. The two-day opening was planned for the weekend of Saturday 21 and Sunday 22 March. A new date will be set as soon as the current pandemic has died out.

The GUM and Ghent University call upon everyone who had planned to visit the GUM in the weeks ahead to register below this page. This way, they will be informed as soon as a new date is set.

Marjan Doom, GUM director:
We want our opening to be a cause for celebration for people of all ages. Recent developments in connection with the coronavirus have made this impossible. We do not want to endanger those at risk of infection when visiting our opening. We expect to host several thousands of visitors during the opening weekend. We hope all of them will register through our website, which will allow us to welcome them soon in our Forum for Science, Doubt and Art. Please visit www.gum.gent to register.”

The GUM will be a museum dedicated to science, research and critical thinking, where visitors can discover that science is the product of trial and error, doubt and imagination. The museum allows you to explore the university’s unique scientific collections, ranging from the fields of biology to ethnography, from medicine to psychology.

Last week, the GUM kicked off its opening campaign with a remarkable event in the Ghent Graffiti Street. At the start of this week, the online campaign went live. You can also spot GUM campaign images all around the city of Ghent.
