Opening month GUM - Welcome inside the head of the scientist
Yes: the wait is over! At long last, the GUM (Ghent University Museum) will open its doors to the pubic with a completely corona-proof opening month, starting 3 October and concluding 31 October. Delve into the programme and discover how you and those in your personal bubble can choose from a wide range of (free) customised packages. You can, for instance, combine a visit to the brand-new science museum with one of the original workshops, artistic performances and much more. You can even pay a free visit to the GUM on weekdays (except for Wednesdays). So, go ahead and book your tickets, as availability is limited.
The programme on offer is different on weekdays and weekends. Discover the differences below.
Weekdays (except for Wednesdays)
On weekdays (except for Wednesdays) during the opening month, you can visit the brand-new museum and the Botanical Garden for free. We do ask visitors to book a ticket in advance for a starting time of their choice. That way, we can guarantee a smooth and safe visit. After all, the museum will open with limited capacity.
Please don’t forget to bring a facemask!
You can book your GUM tickets by clicking the link below. The outdoor gardens are open to the public. Should you want to visit the greenhouses, please book your free tickets below.
It is also possible to have a guided visit in the museum or the botanical garden for you and your personal bubbel. Your visit is free! Only the guide is to pay. You can find all the information in this link. A guided tour in the GUM takes about 1.5 hour. For a guided tour in the botanical garden and its greenhouses you can expect it to take 1.5 to 2 hours. In order to process your request smoothly, we ask you to book at least 10 working days in advance. Thanks!
Book your menu or activity à la carte!
During the weekends of our opening month, we invite visitors to explore six different menus, offering everyone the opportunity to discover the brand-new 'Forum for Science, Doubt & Art’.
Each of our menus, i.e. FAMILY, EXPERIENCE, ART & SCIENCE, DIE HARD and VAN EYCK, combines a museum visit with an activity. The BASIC menu consists of a visit to the museum, but is far from ‘basic’. You will definitely enjoy the surprising atmosphere of our opening month entitled ‘Welcome inside the head of the scientist’.
If you truly can’t get enough, or want to come by another time, you can also register for one of our separate à la carte activities.
On Saturday 31 October we conclude our opening month with Dark Saturday, an event dedicated to the dark side and hidden stories of science and our collections. The full Dark Saturday programme will be available online early October.
